Building Materials - Priority numbers not working

The composite wall has a building material Gypsum that has a 300 priority number, yet it is overriding higher priority numbers within a Composite Slab. See Atachment

Is the file from and older (pre-building material) version of Archicad?
If so has the Legacy mode for 'Intersection & Surface methods' been turned off in Project Preferences?
This will be on by default for old files.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I am having a similar problem.

My legacy mode has been turned off. Some intersections are working (the finish floor and the wall, for example) but the sprayed foam is not being cut by the wood sill plate on top of the foundation wall.

The wood plate is priority 860 and the spray foam wall is 525.

They both have the same layer priority.

Any ideas???

I'm finding that I am continuously having to select the "Display Order" button to bring various elements forward or send backward to get things to look right. Done this hundreds of times even though priorities have been set. Driving me nuts!! Give it a try.....

Oh that works for me, but you shouldn't have to do that. That's the whole point of this priority/building materials thing. It's supposed to "know" what you want it to do, and do it.

Same issue for me. Materials priority has never actually worked to generate clean cross sections in my experience. 'Send to Back' is a nasty workaround that does not work for every case.

I reported the problem as a bug for AC17, but it was never acknowledged as such by Graphisoft, for reasons unknown.

I believe GS should stop marketing this as a feature if it does not actually behave as expected or required.

can someone post a simple PLN illustrating this as its a bit difficult from just a screenshot

OK, Gareth Morgan at CADimage support identified the problem - not only do materials priority numbers need to be set up right, but you have to have layer intersection group numbers for all participating elements set to the same number.
Trap (or opportunity) for young players is that these numbers can change when changing layer combination) - so what might clean up from a plan view layer combination might stop working the minute you invoke elevation/section layer combo

Makes perfect sense in hindsight!

The renovation status must be the same so that the building materials intersection work.

Actually that is another problem - what are we supposed to do if a new wall needs to meet an existing wall cleanly? For example at a non orthogonal angle, so that without cleanup, one wall overlaps the other incorrectly?
