Cavity Closures and other beefs

As a devoted user of SketchUP and its wonderful interface and ability, I have purchased ArchiCAD for its BIM capability. I have to say, however, that considering its enormous cost, its complexity and all the years of development, that it cannot master something as simple as a traditional cavity closer!

Have I missed something? The situation I am speaking of is the requirement for the outer leaf—note, not skin—to return at a window reveal to meet with the inner leaf—note also, not skin. What actually takes place is that the outermost skin returns to meet the innermost skin, namely a render skin to meet a plaster skin! The nearest that I have managed to get to the desired effect is to turn two skins, render and masonry outer leaf, to meet with an inner leaf, but then only by omitting the plaster inner skin!

In reality a program as sophisticated (and not least, expensive) as ArchiCAD ought to provide complete control over all the skins in a wall situation. It beggars belief that it cannot (easily) do so.

I do suppose that some of the reason for this is that this detail might be more location specific to the UK than anywhere else, but I still find this completely unacceptable.

And then we come to the reveal situation, and by which this time I mean the ability to take slots out of walls.

I understand that there may be different ways of doing this, but using SOE, whilst getting the result, in reality is quite crude. To begin with, it is lengthy, using hidden layers, and as a result, tedious, when you wish to make changes. And on which subject, the effect disappears under certain conditions and has to be reapplied.

And, no, I do not believe that I should have to purchase RevealMaker for something so basic to construction.

Sorry for my complaint, especially as my first post. Actually, I was a user of version 3.6, or something like that, and that must have been nearly 20 years ago, so maybe it's tinged with disappointment that stuff like this hasn't been sorted by now. I would appreciate anyone setting me straight, so please feel free! Fire away!
