License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Changing reference planes

It would be very useful to be able to change the reference plane from the basic horizontal to a vertical or even a slanted (random angle) one. By updating Archicad with this option we would be able to create new forms and more complicated objects, similar to other modelling software (Form Z, 3d studio Max etc.)
Anyone knows if there is a way already to achieve that?

Sadly (IMHO), Graphisoft went down the GDL scripting route to build complex forms, rather than using graphical modelling techniques.
While the programmer may find it a more powerful technique, I for one don't have the programming skills to describe the geometries I wish to achieve.

This lack has been addressed by various add-ons that are available, e.g.
-zoom gdl (by abvent makers of Artlantis)
-GDL toolbox (was free but discontinued after AC9)
and more recently
-Maxonform
(to name a few)

Aside from the obvious issue (increased cost) there is also one of availability (development seems to lag major AC releases).

In other words, this issue remains.

BTW you might want to check out Cigraph who have just released a free tool allowing rotation of objects (!!!! - so basic, and yet so needed!!!) from within ArchiCAD

very cool, I going to download it now
