Cloud cursor stops me from snapping to point cloud

I am working in a file where I have a pointcloud. For some reason, I can't snap to the pointcloud anymore in section and elevation views. When the cursor is placed near a point from the cloud, it changes to a cloud (see screenshot) instead of the cursor and I can't click there. Even if I wouldn't care about snapping it's a big problem since I cant place anything with the cursor on the same spot as a point.

I've worked in this project for 6 months and have not have this problem before. When I open older versions of the same file, with the same pointcloud, I can still snap to the cloud, so something must have changed but not sure what it can be.

After reading other posts I've tried using rebuild, as well as activating and de-activating element and surface snap, but to no help.

I tried to go back to the most recent file which didn't have this issue, copy the point cloud from there and paste it into the problematic file. But unfortunately the issue persists, which indicates that the issue is not with the pointcloud itself, but due to some setting in the file which have changed. Any ideas what this might be?

I might also add that the issue is only in section/elevation views, not in plan view where I can snap to the pointcloud

I remember a post about the cloud icon in elevations, but it doesn't help with your problem.

The cloud icon as far as I know should only be seen in 3D perspective views.

I would try to open the file with the 'Open & Repair' option (open the file through the FILE > Open menu).

If that doesn't work, you could try merging the file into a new empty file (or template) or copy & paste the model to a new file.

I'll be the one to ask the dumb question... do you have grid snap on?
