Composites in Plan and Section

We are doing an addition to an existing building. I'd like to have the composition (the brick, insulation, sheathing, etc. fills) of the new wall to show up in plan and section but I'd like the composition of the existing wall to show up only in section and be a shade of gray in plan.

If you want the section to be LIVE, then this is not possible as walls have the same settings for section and plan. I keep sections live and don't like to have to rely on 2D fill overlays outlined below.

To keep everything live, I change the background fill of the existing wall composite to gray. This way you see the structural composition of the wall, but the gray background identifies it as an existing wall.

Non-live/automatic options:
You could set the wall to show as you want in plan then overlay fills in the section window.

Conversely you could set the wall to show as you want in section and overlay the plan view with a fill.

Another option is to set the wall to show as you want in plan, then change your section status to DRAFTING. Drag a copy of the section a set distance away. This various elements can of this copy can be changed without affecting the model.

Oops... I meant Mark-up tool with model view options.

Clever use of the pen sets should do it.
You would need a pen set for plan with pens dedicated to existing, new (grey colours) and maybe demolition.
Then you would need another pen set for elevation with the same pens but different colours (ie the real colours for new walls instead of grey).
Then you could even have a third (or fourth) pen set for the layouts if you want to control the colours they print as well (ie all black or grey instead of coloured).

NOTE: if you are changing views in the Project Map you will need to choose your pen sets manually.
If you are using the View Map then pen sets are saved with the view.
