You could solve this with "Complex profile"

Vivi,
Your image appears to show a segmental dome.
To get the smoothest dome shape I would try
making the dome with Profiler using the revolve method.

Okay, I'll ask the obvious question here - why not use the dome geometry method of the roof tool?

Hello Link,
I will give, what to me is, the obvious answer
I hate all those roof edge lines in the plan and in 3D.
The roof is not smooth like you can get with the Profiler object
or the Dome object and smoother than what you get using
complex profiles in AC 10. Maybe in AC 11 things are different
now that complex profile walls and beams can be curved.
Vivi's signature indicates that she is in AC 10.

its a standard half sphere i need a piece from a sphere.

You could cut off what you don't need with the a roof, trim-to bottom, or SEO.
