I usually keep a copy of the existing mesh in a temporary layer to revert to if required. I then create a copy that I use for visualisation and later CD.
If you create a slab or slope (or any other AC object for that matter) that represents the lowest point of your model in/on the site, and using SEO with "subtraction with upwards extrusion" operation to edit the mesh, this then provides the opportunity for fast editing and visualisation changes, provided you remember to edit this object as well Slabs and slopes work best for this exercise and when visualised correctly can also be used to communicate complex cut and fill operations.
Using the process described in the previous post you also have a 2d benchmark that you can lock to represent natural ground levels. If you have to change the location of your sectionline, you can easily recreate a new natural ground line from the unedited mesh.
