Do not join same materials

Archicad merges the same materials in all views. If a junction needs showing, we can do this by joining dissimilar materials. This is often undesirable. I was told, at an AC18 technical seminar, that AC18 offers an option to show joints without having to used different materials. I haven't been able to find it because I don't know what it is called. Can anyone help?

I think this may be just for Complex Profiles - the same fills automatically remain separated.
I can't see any settings to control other elements with the same surfaces.
