Draw lines using Degrees, Minutes, Seconds in the the a: box

Where can I find info on how to draw lines using 0, ' , " ?

I am manageing to get it done with a littel trial and error but I think there must be a better way. What words in the search engine would turn up some results on how to do this?

What is it you want to know exactly?

When inputting figures just leave a space between each. Eg. 20 42 18 is 20deg, 42min, 18sec.
If there's no minutes required just don't put a number eg. 20 42 is 20deg, 42min, 0sec

No. I know how to do that. The problem is I don't know how to get the line drawn in the relationship to north and south I need. I always have to fool around with it. Enter the deg. min. sec. and lenght, it draws the line but then i have to draw a line perpendicular and mirror it or someting to the it relative my plan. I do reset the origin but still it can be confusing.

Attached is an example. and the origianl info. I drew some lines north and south (virtical) and used the angle tool to verify that i have the angle correct. What i would like to know how to do is get these lines to come out the way I need them with out all the fooing around. Try one and see what you get. You should be able to draw each line from the end of the last one and so on around the property.

try this.

draw a: 70 37 31 . Does it match the line on the original? For me it is the correct angle ( sort of ) but is not not rotated relative to how I need it.

The easiest way is to use the skewed grid.

Draw your first know line to the length you require.
Now activate the "Set skewed grid" button and pick the end of the first line where you want the angle to come from and then the other end of the first line (or anywhaer along it).
This will set the skewed grid angle to match this line and you can then measure any angle from this line as it will now be set to zero.
Do the next line of your boundary and then reset the skewed grid from the end of that line to continue on with the next line.
Change back to the square grid when you have finished.
You will nedd to work in a clockwise direction for this to work.

OK. But I am hoping there is still a better way than that.

I really liked the way you do it in SoftPlan. (10 years ago) AutoCAD does it better too. ArchiCAD needs to add the ability to include direction as well as deg. min. sec....N 70 37 31 E in stead of only 70 37 31.

I hope that is on a wish list somewhere.

Maybe I am missing something about your posts, but you can enter the cardinal directions as part of the surveyor's unit angles. The method I used with your example (original_lines_103.pdf) is:
1. Click to start the line
2. Hit "r" key (to input length of line) and type "122.8+"
3. Hit "a" key (to input angle) and type "n 70 37 31 e" (note spaces)
4. Hit "enter" key

North is set in the Sun Dialog Box. In your example is appears to be at 90 degrees (straight up on the page).

David just beat me to the Easy Answer, As I was setting to type this. Use Surveyor's Unit in Preferences and type with the N (or S) and E (or W) designations.

Thanks guys. That worked just fine. I had to adjust my North direction in the sun settings and set preferences to surveyor's units not just deg. min. and sec.
