How do I split slab

I need to split a slab in order to change the floors in each room. I’ve only been shown this once and have totally forgotten how. javascript:emoticon(':oops:')

This is what I’ve done so far:
• Highlighted the slab
• Added a node
• Attempted to move the node
• Attempted to split the slab
• No luck – don’t know what I’m doing.

Please help.
