How do I split slab

Anonymous
Not applicable
I need to split a slab in order to change the floors in each room. I’ve only been shown this once and have totally forgotten how. javascript:emoticon('')

This is what I’ve done so far:
• Highlighted the slab
• Added a node
• Attempted to move the node
• Attempted to split the slab
• No luck – don’t know what I’m doing.

Please help.

Wow, that was quick!! Thanks for the reply.

I know where the split tool is, I just don't know how to use it properly.

I've attached a shot of the slab that needs splitting. Each room has to be split in order for the floors to have a different material placed.

Tearing my hair out,

Thanks again,

Hayley.

p.s I appreciate all the help I can get.

hayley,
select the slab, then select the split tool, then draw a line from the outside of the slab to the other outside of the slab. (the split tool allows you to draw the line, dont use the line tool, and continue the line through the slab)
you will then get an 'eye' to determine which direction you want the split (dont matter).
then offset the edges to where you want them.

repeat as required.

keep your hair.

the split tool can be tricky. Easiest to use if you place a line first.
Then the split tool can use line for the split operation.

1) Select slab
2) Engage the split tool
3) Click on the line you made for this purpose (or any preexisting line)
4) click to one side of line
5) that should be it.

HOWEVER:
Your goal is to have different materials in each room.
Use the zone tool for each room. The zone tool allows you to do many useful things:
A) change materials per room
B) list doors per room number (ie zone number)
C) have room areas at hand
D) scheduling of zone attributes
E) show different fills per room

OR:
Use the Interior Wizard Add-on.

You should run a search (box at top right of Forum page) on "Zones".
lots of useful discussions. Like Here, here and here. tons more . . .

PS you could also keep main slab for structural purposes etc. and place
thin "finishing" slabs in each room. Look also at the magic wand. This tool
will save time and is a real miracle worker.

Ta, Splitlid,

As I'm sitting here reading your reply, I've realised that it's 1.40am, which explains why your words seem to melt into one. I'll try this when the sun's up.

I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.

Hayley.

If you prefere using SLAB's, do this way:
1. Move the slab away from the outer walls
2. Alt+click on the slab (pick properties)
3. Space+left click on each room...Slabs in the rooms!

I like andros method best. I model the floor framing for the level with one slab, then put in thin slabs for each room to represent the finish floors. (when in doubt, model it the way it is built)

Try this:
In the top bar>Help;
Type: Spit command>Splitting Elements

Don't split the slab.

Magic wand a new, thin slab on top of the structural slab to represent the material in each room.
It's more accurate.
