How to make an object from an image...

I'm finding that fairly often I am modeling logos to be placed in various AC drawings. Typically I'll receive some image file from the client and then I need to make an object out of it..... I've been dropping it into AC and then tracing it w/ the slab tool and creating an object out of that... It works fine, but is tedious, not really that accurate and the one I just got has wheat stalks and script lettering in it....... I'm not looking forward to tracing that... The ultimate would be if I could "magic wand" parts of the image, a la Photoshop, and then create slabs from that... I figure others out there must be modeling logos as well and I would like to know how that is being done.....

Thanks

Sorry if this has been covered. I searched, but to be honest I had trouble coming up w/ reasonable key words...

(Edit)
Oh, I could and have placed the image in as a material for color rendering, but I need to be able to use these in hidden line drawings. We use a lot of HL drawings during the SD phase....

I once had to do the very same thing and used Adobe Streamline and Illustrator to export the drawing as DXF. Today Illustrator can trace the drawing and export as DWG but of course who wants to buy Illustrator to convert one drawing?

Maybe your local graphic artist could do the trace and conversion to DWG for you for a small fee?

Or maybe the client could put you in contact with their graphic artist who could do the same?
