How to model a wooden structure?

Hi!

I stumbled upon this site: http://www.vaniacoelhosantos.com/pt/ , and I would like to know what is the best way to model the presented structure. Is archicad the best tool or is it better to use another software (revit, sketchup, rhino...)?

Thanks in advance!

Planar shapes such as shown are a trivial issue for ArchiCAD and most other software of this nature. ArchiCAD can also model most curvilinear shapes, complex curves, etc. However, the reason ArchiCAD is an excellent choice is that after you finish drawing the structure, you must the complete the information to fully describe the structure to someone who has only these drawings to either estimate, build or otherwise understand every aspect of your structure. Dimensions, text, notes, schedules, sections, elevations, 3D projections, and so on - these tasks are where you will realize that ArchiCAD is one of the best choices available.

Thanks, that's what I thought, too. Specifically, what I meant to ask was: must (should?) the building blocks (columns, beams...) be parametric in relation one to another, or isn't it possible? If it is, how can it be achieved?

João,
Yes, parametric objects and even entire buildings are possible with GDL, ArchiCad's programming language.

GDL Resources:
Visit this forum's "Libraries / Library Parts / GDL" Topic
Refer to the GDL Reference Guide under the Help menu.
The classic e-book "GDL Cookbook" by David Nicholson-Cole of the University of Nottingham.
Olivier Dentan's webpage has some amazing parametric objects.
Visit this page for examples of parametric buildings using GDL by the Architecture students at UN.
