Library defults

HI everyone,
We asked this question a while ago and we thank you for the repys, but we are still having troubles understanding how to do this.
Member Aussie John recommended the following;

"Open the library part directly (command opt "O") change the parameters and save with a new name (if you change the A,b or zzyzx settings it will effect all the previously placed library parts). So a new object is in order.

That said the other parameters can be changed without effecting the placed library parts (same for windows and doors) "

But we don't know how to do this. We need to know how we can set the defaults for objects, windows, and doors so they stay the way we like them. We know that we can do each individual thing under edit tools when it is selected, but if we go into something else then come back to the object it to put another one in, the properties change. It would be a lot faster for us if we could default it to our liking. (ex. for window we would like the frame width for all casement window to be 3/4" for every casement).

Thank you,
Westrick Design

save the object how you want it as a favourite

has to be done on a per object basis. unfortunately there's no way of saving parameters for multiple objects (e.g. frame width of different windows)

Is there a way to change something in some script so for example, windows material won't be by default Pine shiny? Do I need to open every window/door/object and save it as a separate GDL file?

Maybe AC9 has this improved?

Westrick;

Aussie John explained the procedure properly. if succinctly.

- click on an object
- command opt 'O' to open the 'GDL edit window'
- adjust the parameters here (note: you are adjusting the library part parameters, not the 'model instance' paramters
- save

This is the easiest way (if a little time consuming initially) to set 'default' parameters permanently.

Favourites are -arguably- a better way of going about things.

Marin;

Unfortunately NO. What you could do most easily is redefine the material 'Pine Shiny' to be your 'default' but this could cause confusion. The best option is as above.

TIP;

We set the material property of 'GENERAL' to be a revolting shade of green. This way it is easy to visiually check if anything gets 'missed' when setting up material definitions.
