Menus and palettes blank out

Hi all,

While editing a project in AC11, especially in the 3D window, menus and palettes go blank and will only reappear by switching application and then switching back to AC11 again.

It rather defeats the object of working in 3D... we might as well all be flatlanders.

Video card has had latest drivers installed.
Card is Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 256MB.
Page file increased as recommended.
RAM installed = 4GB.

Any ideas? Save project to AC10 and finish it there?

It is propably a hardware and driver problem rather than an ArchiCad problem. Even latest driver can have bugs, or don't work in combinations with other hardware setups.
Sometimes if you have an very old installation of OS, then it could be time to reinstall your computer. Myself I reinstall at least 1 time / year, you often got some pieces of old drivers / software left in the system that make your computer more instable than it would be with a new fresh install

Thanks Tobias - but the strange thing is that it' a new computer. Had the old one replaced as it couldn't cope (memory-wise) with any real 3D navigating or generating.

I also feel it is some kind of conflict between 11 and the hardware - but what should be replaced? We need a definite solution before my firm can sort out the problem.

I have a feeling it's the video card, but that's only a hunch and I don't really know. Also, people with lesser video cards seem to have no problem as far as I can tell...

Ofcause it could be some unstable situations between AC 11 and some hardware configuration, but that could be hard to find if it not give you some more errors.

We got the same problem at one of our computer here in AC10, it was the memorystick in the computer that gives the failure after alot of trial'n'error.

Because ArchiCad is a big user of computerpower, it's often here you will find the first symtoms of that something is wrong with your computer.

You might try rolling back your mouse driver to an earlier version. We have had similar interface / palette problems reported by some of our clients with new computers, and this has been fixed by installing an earlier mouse driver.

Thanks Andrew for the suggestion. I felt a pang of hope with that, but sadly it doesn't help.

I'll hopefully be getting a different video card from our computer supplier to try out on Monday or Tuesday to see if that makes any difference. Will post here if it does.
