Moving roof pivot lines without moving roof

Is this possible? I use rectangular skillion roofs a lot, and generally have the pivot line along the high point of the roof in plan. Using the off set tool to manipulate the plan shape often means the high ridge line of the skillion roof and the pivot line no longer aligns, but moving the pivot line shifts the entire roof in 3D which is annoying.

The pivot line is the pitch of the roof and the direction of the roof slope. Moving the pivot line without moving the roof is like moving without moving ... I do not think it's possible

If you can move the reference line in 3D and can get it to snap to your roof surface, it might work, but in 2D this is not possible as you cannot make the z value change dynamically depending on the x/y values you are changing.

Before moving the pivot line, Command-click (or Windows equivalent) on the high point of the roof and a pop-up window will show you the elevations at the clicked point. Copy the data of the bottom of roof elevation to your clipboard, since the pivot line elevation is set to the bottom of the roof plane. Move your pivot line to the top of your roof. Then paste the value from before into the pivot line's elevation field. Your roof should appear not to have moved.
