Need a recessed dome in a ceiling

I am trying to get a shallow dome shape set into a flat ceiling. I have tried the SEO with the ellipsoid library thing, but no joy. Any ideas out there?

I just tried SEO using the ellipsoid object on a thick slab and it worked fine.
After doing the SEO I put the object on a non-visible layer and I had
a shallow oval depression in the underside of the slab.
