Open AC17 model in AC18

I've done sketch plans for a house in AC17 and want to use AC18 for the documentation. Unfortunately, when I open my AC17 model in AC18, I don't get the AC18 template and its new features. When I import AC17 into a blank AC18 drawing with a correct AC18 template, I don't get the Layouts used in my AC17 model, nor do I get the AC18 materials, surfaces, fills, composites, etc. Trying to merge AC17 model into an AC18 template produces a blank sheet.

I've tried adding the AC18 attributes to the imported AC17 model via the attribute manager (intending to delete duplicates) but this doesn't work.

Is there an easy way to open and use an AC17 model in AC18? What process do the experts recommend?

Why do I want to do it? Well I want to use the revision tool and other improvements in AC18 and thought that the project is early enough to do this.

Kees,
I would import 17 file into new template and then spend the time to fix attributes and layouts, layer combos etc using a attribute manager and manually, shouldn't take more than a couple of hours (I have migrated documentation project for 17 storey 180 apartment building from 17 to 18 in an afternoon)
Time saved by new revisioning tool will more than make up for this time.

Kees,
You could also open your 17 file in 18. Save the file. Then you will be able to merge the 17 model into the default, or other, open template file.

hello,
i am trying to do it the last few days. the Erika 's merge option works well but i have problems importing the worksheets. Also with the merge option i end up with some materials from the 17 without ID and some from the 18 with ID. i do not know if that is good or bad .
parhaps the attribute manager option?

Achilles,
When you merge, a negative, is that you bring in all your attributes. However, you do now have all the options of 18 and its attributes. As you suggest, you can resolve this using attribute manager.

When you merged your file you chose between bringing in the model or bringing in your layout book. You can do a second merge and bring in you layout book. Be patient, this can take some time to merge in. Alternatively you can use your Organizer to drag and drop your layout book from one file to another. Again, be patient, as this can take time. Have a coffee or two 🙂

Thanks Erika
That seems to work However, the merged model appears in my AC18 within a marquee. When I remove the marquee the merged model disappears. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Kees,
Just guessing but if you press 'ESC' to remove the marquee then you are cancelling the merge.
You need to click anywhere outside the marquee (just as when pasting) to accept the merge.

Thanks Barry. I think that you are right and feel like an idiot. I normally use Esc to remove a marquee to the point where I forgot the standard, and easier, way. i am home now and will try it your way in the morning.
