I created a photo rendering projection, but it will not save, nor does it give me a dialogue box to save the rendering. Am I doing something wrong or need to purchase something to get the rendering to save as jpegs?

Just go to File menu > Save As from the Render window and it will save the image, not the entire file. If you're using AC18 closing the Render window will prompt you to save the image too.
