Railing tutorial problem

I'm doing the intermediate tutorial on graphisofts website. I'm no the 46/84 video named external railings. I'm using archicad 22 student version. It tells you to select the railing, go into edit mode, select a couple panels and then delete them. However when I delete them it deletes the entire railing and puts me back in 3d/all but with no railing still in edit mode though. I watch the other railing videos and it mentions "convert pattern to segment length". I tried that and it still deletes the entire railing no matter what part I try to delete. I thought maybe it was suspend groups but when you go into edit mode it turns that on and it's greyed out so you can't turn it off anyway.

This is the video I'm on. I the part I'm stuck on and explained above starts at around the 4 minute mark

I tried to delete a Panel in AC22 and like you reported, the entire railing is deleted. Since this is an AC21 file, I tried this in AC21 and it worked as expected (Panels deleted, the rest of the Railing remains). I also tried Opening & Repairing the file in AC22 with the same result. I do not know why there is different results between the two versions.

I just tried attaching the file but it says invalid extension. You can't attach archicad .pln files to the archicad forums?

There is a 5 MB per file limit and only certain extensions. Place the file on a service like Dropbox and provide a link in your post.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

This file is after the railing is changed in the video. I unloaded this one because the file I'm using has all the libraries in it for the entire set of tutorials so its really big. I didn't really know what I was doing when I added them. Still learning the software. The file I linked still functions the same however. If you try and select one of the remaining panels(on the short sides) of the railing and delete it like it says in the video, it deletes the entire railing the same as it does in my file.

Thanks for trying. I thought I was going crazy. Thought for sure I had accidentally turned some setting on to make it not work as expected. The tutorial comes with files for each video so I'll just skip to the next file with the railing already changed. I can continue the tutorial where I left off then. I'm a little OCD so I have a few hours into trying to solve this issue. Read and watched a ton of videos on railings. Learning more is never bad. I'm slow at work, so I'm taking the time to learn something. I didn't want to say, "oh well. I guess I can't learn how to do that part." and skip it.

This is a known bug.
There is a post here somewhere (or possibly in another forum) that I can't find at the moment.

If you try to delete a post (or panel as well it seems) in edit mode in the 3D window, then the entire rail will delete.
However if you do the same in an elevation it should work just fine.

Hello,

Here's the link to the Topic Barry mentioned. It is actually an ARCHICAD 22 40xx issue, and the problem should be fixed in the next regular update (build 50xx - fix #252335).

If you delete the sub-elements in Section/Elevation/Interior-Elevation Viewpoints or from the settings dialog, it should work properly. Alternatively if it causes a big headache, you can go back to build 30xx until the next update is out.

Thanks for the link and pointing out it is a know problem. I shouldn't need to roll back as I was just trying to get through the tutorial. I'll put the link into my troubleshooting bookmark folder for archicad so if I forget it's a thing I'll have it to remind me.

It's nice to see there are informed people here to help like over on the autodesk forums. I'll most likely be switching jobs and going full archicad for an opportunity I have had presented to me once I have a better handle on it. I'm sure I'll be here reading a lot more.
