Reducing spline points

Hi everyone,

I drew a line using a handdrawing tool and I'd like to make a slab in this shape. When I click spacebar on it, AC hangs. It's probably due to too many points that the spline consists of. Is there any way (or a plugin) that could reduce number of these points, and so that the spline shape wouldn't change that much at the same time? Slab tool seems to have real problems with creating 3d solids of misshapen lines.

If your line is a poly line then the option I know about is a plugin from Cigraph Architools, this one has a tool to simplify poly lines, if your line is not a poly line try Magic wand on the line with the polyline tool to create a polyline and go from there.
