Dear Archi-Talkers,

On behalf of my colleagues at Graphisoft I am proudly announcing the brand new release of ArchiCAD 12. In this new version we will deliver you a very rich set of features covering three main areas: speed, design and documentation.

You can read detailed descriptions of all the new features on the ArchiCAD 12 website but I would like to highlight one feature that is beneficial to every single user no matter what type of practice it is or where it is located. This is the multiprocessor support in ArchiCAD 12, which is by the way an industry first for a BIM application.

We all have been waiting for this announcement for long, so I would like to thank you for your patience now. I hope you understand that because of business considerations we couldn’t disclose any information about the new release earlier.

I hope you will all enjoy using the new release as we enjoyed creating it for you. And I would like to especially thank our Beta Users who have been very supportive during the Beta period.

Please visit http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/ac12/ for more information on the new version. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact your local ArchiCAD representative.

I wish you all the best to ArchiCAD 12!

G5 Dual 2.5 PPC is very happy. My example file opens in AC11 2:00 min+ in AC12 less than 30 secs.

Does this support extend to Macs with PPC multiprocessors or just Intel based models?
Are there any tests demonstrating the increase of speed for Mac/PC computers for redraws, section generation, etc.?
My scientific tests indicate that it is way faster.

Speed gains will really depend on what you are doing but I found a roughly 6-7x speed increase rebuilding sections and elevations (shadows on) on my current project (70,000m2 office building) from 20+ mins down to around 3 ... so it really does take advantage of all your available processors.

This alone is worth the upgrade.

The Hotlink manager is the other welcome, long overdue improvement but still not great - it needs more control of all levels of the Hotlink tree from within the one file.

Good release GS
cheers,

In windows, do we need 64bit versions or does it support multip. in 32bit versions of XP too?

Is there a comprehensive list of new features/changes? The 'ArchiCAD 12 New Feature List' pdf is interesting but more of a marketing tool. Plus it links to the ArchiCAD help we don't have yet

edit: just want more clarification on import/export stuff really

Dwight, I believe the technically correct, scientific description is "way, WAY, faster" (at least on an 8-core Mac Pro like ours)

And astonishingly so. I am in the middle of a heritage home renovation that took Archicad 11 a long time to image-up, to the point that i was careful to marquee tiny areas for 3D views. I slipped and imaged the entire building just now and Jumping Jack Jehosephat!!! it was quick.

Proposed new Graphisoft T-Shirt slogan:

"Archicad 12: giving a whole new meaning to Augenblick!"

It does multiprocessing in 32bit. Open a layout with six sections, and watch the status windows opening ... magic!

cool

so it is fast

not much use if once it is opened quickly.... it can't do half the things i want/ need it to

i will be a happy man when i can model and produce CD's for Notre Dame du Haut, Ronchamp using standard tools within archiCAD

any word on whether or not the GDL authoring environment has been enhanced (a few additional parameters is about all we seem to get from version to version)

it would seem that in a shorter amount of time that archiCAD has been developing GDL, macromedia (now adobe) have developed the flash + director script authoring environments (+ what they can achieve) from virtually useless to feature rich, easy to use, intuitive and powerful.
