I saw some documents to compare between Revit and AC.
I study Revit from own website.
It is just copy from AC!!

I used to work with AC (and very satisfied, and like many friends from AC-forum).
As AC-user I hope, AC must be better than Revit for Architects.

I have not used Revit, but just seen from Website.
The web-site from Revit is so nice, that I must believe, Revit should be better than AC.

I like to know your opinions and also opinions from GS.

Thanks

why didnt you consider the above BIM solution ?
My understanding was that bentley (like vectorworks and others) aren't "true" BIM solutions. I did some 3-d modeling with bentley a few years back and found it to be a truly horrible experience.

I actually tested out Benltey Architecture while I was learning Revit. I found the program very cumbersome and I dont like how drawings are made up of multiple .dgn files - sounds a lot like ADT. Not to mention, how many companies do you know that are using a Bentley product? Its a lot easier when your software can integrate with consultant's software.

The Bentley concept of a single platform with architectural, structural, MPE, and other disciplines was really good. It's a shame it never really lived up to its potential.

Microstation is a 3D graphics program, 3D from the beginning as opposed to Autcad. It achieves BIM through add-ons. (Triforma is/was one.) Cumbersome to work with, but handles 3D much more freely than for example Archicad. But it doesn't understand archictecture like Archicad, which basically is a building information database, which the program handles graphically and otherwise.

Microstation's biggest strength is still that it's handling of external reference files (like XREF, modules etc.) is superior to anything else I've seen. This is why it's often used in really big projects like airports. It's easy to split and modularize and re-join project parts. It's also fast, maybe because it's based on interger math instead of floating-point. It also handles dwg better than any other non-Autodesk program.

But still, I'm a happy Archicad user. Archicad understands my work!

Ugh. We sell Microstation. Powerful, but a beast to learn. And limited in what you can model for doors or windows.

One of the largest engineering firms in our area has been using Revit Structure for the past year and are very disappointed with the product -- they are currently considering Tekla w/ AC...

I built a project in Revit that we already built in Archicad and one of the things that I think went over really well was the ability to make windows (and any other object for that matter) a lot easier (and quicker) in Revit's family editor. Its just a lot more intuitive than GDL. Within an hour I had made the custom windows required for the project and I had never used the family editor before. Maybe its a visual vs. a code thing, I don't know.

A sugestion for graphisoft: Buy & distribute on release 11 Door & window builder & archistair from cadimage & Cigraph. Drawing of windows, doors & stairs is something basic in any cad program. It seems graphisoft Cannot do this in a satisfactory way. These items get a lot of complains from users. These are excelent add-ons that resolve something that should be resolved long ago by graphisoft. Its a shame we have to pay extra for something so basic.
