Roof tool doesn't create ceilings? skylight cutting holes

Hi there,
I can't seem to find any info on the roof tool creating a ceiling at the same time. i would assume that it would. so i've been using a slab to create the ceiling, but then the skylight doesn't cut a hole in the ceiling. I hope i'm missing something here. if the ceiling isn't created, would it not make sense to be able to adjust the skylight to extend it's cutting plane or something to cut through the ceiling?

the roof tool does not create a ceiling unless it is a vaulted ceiling using the underside of of the roof. I just create an opening in my ceiling element for the skylight opening and model the skylight shaft with walls trimmed to the ceiling below and roof above.
