Section to 3d window.

I am selecting an object in the s/e window, then right click on the context menu to go to 3d window. When the window opens, it is not the object, but the view from the last marguee I had open.

What the.......????

Does object selection to 3d window only work from plan view?

Whew!

Maybe I have not worked out a good system of doing things yet, but flipping back and forth from window to window is pretty time consuming. You have to get to the right window to do the right thing, etc, etc.

Also, I think that when you click on the section mark in the plan, it should open with the appropriate settting that are save in the view set. Seems like between the display options, view sets, and layer settings, I'm spending more time saddling the horse than riding the horse.....know what I mean?

Sat nite rant. I should be done with this project......not flipping window to window trying to see what I'm doing.......

Good night.

I agree about the frustration of remembering the quirks of what can be done in each type of window/work-space. There are lots of wishes out there for section windows to behave more like plan and 3D...

Well... that would be a tough one, Tom, since the section marker in plan can correspond to any number of views. Not only can you have multiple views of the same section in one view set, but you can have any number of viewsets.

The idea of a template or at least office standards is that once you have your layers, layer combinations and display combinations organized, you rarely need to think about them again... other than to refine them as you tune your work methods or adjust them for an unusual project.

Karl:

What I was looking for was to have the floor plan section marker linked to a specific view set, so when I click on the marker and open, it goes to the view set that I set up already with layer sets, display options, etc. etc.

Barring that, I have to select if from the editor window. The problem with that is that I have quite a few sections; most that I won't use in the CD because I used them to help with the 3D modeling of the building. I don't want to delete them because I might need them again. So now I have to scroll to find the section I want; it would be quicker to hit the section on plan and go right to the view set.

Is there any way to move the view sets around within the view editor dialogue box so they'll be alphabetical, or by number, or anything. It seems like once they are in the folder, they are immovable.

And another thing. Trying to clean out the section & elevations folder......I selected one view set to delete.......it deletes the whole folder with all the sections and elevations with all the view sets in it.

What the.......?

I had just saved, no problem. But how do I delete unwanted view sets if it takes the whole folder?

Hi Tom,

Quite a few issues in your posts, all of which indicate that you don't have a handle yet on using view, view sets, clones, etc. Your terminology isn't quite right, which makes this a little confusing, too.

That would be "view", not "view set". And, no, that isn't possible. That is what views in a view set are all about.

Apparently your view sets contain clones, which is the root of your frustration. IMHO NEVER user clones. Without clones, you only have the views you want and need in a view set, and you drag them into the exact order that you want. Further, create multiple view sets if you feel that helps you ... putting those "other" sections into a Drafting Only (or whatever) view set, as opposed to your "Construction Documents" set (which should be your what-you-see-if-what-you-get views that are linked to Plotmaker).

This is because you are using clones. Instead, create your views by opening a section, setting your layer and display combos with the Nav buttons, then drag the Nav item into a view set. Drag all other sections that should have the same settings over too. Open each, and redefine to get the zoom as you prefer for working. Rename them to the names that you want to show up in the automatic titles in Plotmaker. Drag them around into the order you want.

Each of these views is independent. You can delete one, and the others say. You can use View Editor to drag views between view sets, copying or moving. Etc.

(I'm sure you read the manual, but perhaps it is time to review it.)

Again, you are trying to delete 'views' not 'view sets'. It was the clone thing. A clone is an all-or-nothing thing. Don't use them (my opinion).

To delete or create new view sets, you use the fly-out menus of the Nav.

HTH 😉

Thanks for the infor. I guess I need to understand clones. I have never knowingly used them. I usually do drag from the nav to the view editor, then set it up like I want it and then define it. I'm not sure how I got to clones.

Any idea how I could rectify this clone situation without redoing all the views? I have had a problem with getting the whole editor thing to work like I want it to, I guess I'm starting to see what the problem is.

The closest you can go AFAIK, is to open one of your cloned views to "set" the layer combo, display combo, scale, etc. and then drag the desired navigator items (NOT the folders, but the individual items) into a view set. Then, delete the cloned folder.
