I'm about 90% sure you can do this in 17 (have an elevation height marker in plan also show the height in 3D). I can't remember which video it is described in....

Are you just wanting to find the height of a point for your own benefit? If so, with Tracker on, hover over a node in the 3D window and hit Z - tracker will display the elevation.
In the image below my cursor was on the apex of the dormer.
