Slabs and Partial Structure Display

Hello everybody,

While playing with the "Partial Structure Display" option in AC12, I faced the following problem:
I drew a slab having a simple fill as a cut fill (no composite); I applied 3 different materials for top, sides and bottom. If "Partial Structure Display" is set to ""Core Only" or "Without Finishes", all the faces of the slab get the "side material" (please see the attached image). Is there a way I can get all 3 materials to show ?

What you are asking is counter to the "Core only" setting. With Core only you are telling it no finishes.

I understand what you mean. The thing is I thought that if i assigned a simple cut fill (not a composite) to my slab (hence no core or finish defined), Partial Structure Display would ignore the slab, thus making it show all 3 materials.

The 'core' is the structure, so does not and should not include the finish.

Thinking about the structure, it tends to be of one material e.g. wood or metal. That material is seen in the section, but often is covered up by floor or ceiling materials.

Yes, I am aware of that. My thoughts were just about the fact that Partial Structure Display is (or isn't) recognizing cut fills not being defined beforehand as core, finish or none (like the skins of composites). I think it's clear now.

This is actually rather curious. I gather that AC is automatically designating the simple fill as core for purposes of the core only setting. I imagine it must do the same for walls and roofs. It is probably just an artifact of how they've implemented the core only function, but it suggests a bit of unification between simple and composite structures that is intriguing.
