Special Edition library comments

I guess this library was released in the U.S. only but I'd like to hear comments from though who have tried it.

When I first downloaded it I felt it was clunky and not very usable but with the latest update I find it very useful. As I become more familiar with the dialog interface and how I can manipulate in 3d better I am using it now completely instead of the AC9 library.

Does anyone else have any comments?

We're also using the SE9 library. Currently still loading the US9, but hardly using it (actually, not using it at all). Carl was saying that you should use the SE9 over the other libraries - I hope I'm quoting him correctly.

I am using the new SE9 library exclusively on a new project I started in January. I have only done doors and windows and fireplaces to date, but will begin cabinet and other work shortly. Also, I have been studying the new MSA detailer template, found in the Detailer Library, with great interest.

I have MANY more AC crashes and bug reports with the SE library then with the standard library and now I save much more often. However, I like the library interface. I have been publishing my comments in "Libraries/Library Parts/GDL" section of this forum. I would like to make more suggestions, but there does not seem to be a lot of interest in the forum and I am afraid that without feed back my comments maybe viewed as negative. Outside of this forum I really don't know how to send meaningful comments to Graphisoft.

Two things that I have noticed is that the order of doors and window objects makes no sense and the pen widths of the new template that accompanies the SE library does not always match the library parts. The door and window objects would be much easier to find if they were arranged in an ascending order of complexity, i.e. one sash casement, two sash casement, three sash casement so on and so forth, instead of a mixed up hodgepoge. The pen widths for the door and window object match up pretty well, but on the fireplace object, the contour pen was so thick that all you could see was the pen width. I hope this was an exception and not the rule.

I have been using the SE library for some months now, and I haven't found this to be the case. Are you sure you're using the latest patch and the latest library?

You may want to check your pen settings. The block was probably created with some lines that you had redefined (either intentionally or by mistake) to a thicker setting. All the linetypes should be modifyable. Depending on your situation, you could open the block and make the pen settings permanent. Then save it as a new block. Then, when you open it again (the new block), it should automatically come in with the proper pen settings so you won't have to change it again.

I downloaded the SE library from the ArchiCAD menu bar: Help > Check for latest libraries, on Jan 6. I followed the links and downloaded the SE Library & SE Template dated 2005-10-04. Are there more current versions?

My many crashes may result because I am on a MAC and you are a PC user, or maybe because in trying to get the window library to produce a simple dry wall return I may have entered values never anticipated by software.

As far as pen weights go, all I know, is that for the SE fireplace objects, the Refractory Brick Contour Pen, found under Parameters > 2D Representation is set to Pen 1 which on the SE Template corresponds to 1.42pt (.5mm) which is way to heavy for 1/4" US scale.
