Surface patterns and adaptive components?

Hello, I'n new to Archicad... I started learning a little Revit but then switched to Archicad mostly 'cause we are Mac based practice and prefer to run software natively... There are a few commands or operations in Revit that I haven't been able to find out how to do in ArchiCAD.
They (for the most part) complement each other or tend to be used together, one is to divide a surface into patterns... and then the second one is, through adaptive components (that are pretty neat), create panelling systems that can adapt to the shape of that pattern, hence to the form to which that pattern was applied. Was wondering if somebody know what would be the process in ArchiCAD of achieving a similar result.
Thanks a mil.

There is not a direct analog in ArchiCAD for that. If you tell us specifically what you want to do we can offer suggestions.

Hi there,

As Matthew pointed out, there is no direct native analog tool in ArchiCAD for that. You can do it somehow manually with the Morph tool, but that would require a bit of patience.

On the other side, there are a couple of objects developed by a spanish guy, Jose Gemez... pretty cool, yet not perfect.

You may achieve similar results with these. follow the links below to their web sites ( In spanish) to get a better idea if they work for you.

Good luck!

P.D. I will post a couple of screenshots for the Morph divide surface procedure later...

Thanks Mathew... I kind of imagined there wouldn't be an exact equivalent to the commands, but what I´m wondering is what would be the way to achieve something similar in ArchiCAD. Say I have a curved facade of a building, and I want to test different paneling systems on the facade, but as we all know to well the design process isn't static so the curve of the facade is not definite yet, so as I test different iterations for the shape of the facade I want to se how different panelling elements respond to it... adapt to it (adaptive components in Revit). Now, I'm not interested in a discussion of which software is better, been there done that and made my choice... ArchiCAD suits me better right now, and I would suspect it should be capable of doing what I'm describing, I'm just finding it hard to find out how. (Reminder: I'm still only learning).

Nando, gracias!. I've seen the tools GArquitectos have developed (Dragon and Medusa) and they're definitely along the lines of what I'm looking for, does that mean ArchiCAD has no way of doing this in and by itself but needs an add-on? It seems GArchitectos has stopped developing this tools, do you know anything about this? http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=33646&view=previous&sid=6cb0721685a7c4e3239c9ee7...

Depending on the form you have, you may try the curtain wall tool ( quite complex at first use and doesn't have all the possibilities of the morph tool )

Here is a video from Bimes:

Other than that we may still wait for GS to implement such feature ( now commun on the leading softwares in the AEC field ) Or use the softwares that has it implmented.
