Tool changes from 8.1 to 17 (what happened to the shortcuts?

I just upgraded from Version 8.1 to 17. (Big leap, yes, I know, but it suited me well for 10+ years.) At this point I'm sorry I had to upgrade. For example, what happened to those handy shortcuts for navigating the stories (command-6 to go up a story; command-5 to go down; command-8 to hide or reveal the ghost story; command-4 to show story manager window, etc)? Is there some substitute or are they gone?
If there are no shortcuts how do we hide/reveal the ghost story w/ Version 17, anyhow?

Yes. Go to Profile and fill out the Signature field. Then your system and AC info will be there for all posts.

Where do I find the dimensioning tool for diagonal lines? I can find the dimensioning tools for lines perp. to the grid and for angles. 8.1 had horiz, vert, & diag dimensions tools all in one convenient place.

BTW, I have tried to locate a User's Manual for V17. Is there such a thing (as there was for 8.1)? If I could lay may hands on one (assuming it exists) I wouldn't have to ask so many questions about such basic operations!

Have a look at the geometry methods for the dimension tool.
If you set it to the angled method you can do horizontal, vertical or angled at any time.

Have a look in the HELP menu for the Reference Guide PDF.

Or go to Help > ArchiCAD Help, which opens the Help Center in your browser and has a Search field. Here, for example, you can search "Dimensioning Tool" to get links to articles about its use.

Thanks for adding the signature.

Thanks for the tips. Took a little digging but I found the diagonal line dimensioning tool I was looking for where you suggested. See attached.

By analogy, leaping from AC8.1 to AC17 is like experiencing a stroke. Thoughts and ideas are bottled up in the mind and cannot be communicated because you can neither move your hands nor speak!
But I can walk again (not run) because I had a sit-down instructional session w/ a local user recommended by GS who's been using since AC5.1. I learned that a lot of my issues were resolved by understanding and manipulating the settings. Of course how to find them and what they control is pretty arcane stuff...

I have one tiny question at this point: How do I activate the "tool" (the little icon that pops up on the screen) that indicates that the line or wall you are extending/projecting is normal (perpendicular) to the plane of an object that it is intersecting?

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows!

If I understand your question right then you are talking about the Smart Cursor.
The Smart Cursor will always change its shape when a special point is found. So for example in 2D when you draw a line and you move your cursor onto another line, if the line from the previous input point to the cursor is perpendicular to the line you are over, the cursor shape will change to the "perpendicular" cursor shape.

So now, at least, I know what it's called. How do I activate it?

It should appear automatically.
If it does not you might have a graphics card driver problem and you should try to update the driver (if that is the cause of it not showing).
Do other smart cursor shapes appear? Like the Mercedes cursor when your cursor is over a reference line of a Wall or Beam, or the arrow with checkmark cursor when you find an element node?
