Trim Slab to Roof

I have never been able to trim a slab to a roof (top or bottom)because the slab radio button is always grayed out. I select both the roof and the slab that I want trimmed but nothing happens. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to do this. Thanks you in advance.

Try Solid Element Operation (SEO) instead

Slab radio button is always grayed out, because the slab that you want to trim is selected.

Since SEO in AC I have never used Trim to Roof option.
After your post in forum I have tested trim to roof option on AC9, and must say, that the problem exist. In most cases Slab will not be trimmed. I think this is a bug. Nothing to be surprised!!! To many bugs on AC9!!!

trim to roof only works with
- walls
- columns
- objects
- windows and doors combined with walls
it doesn't work with slabs and also not with roofs (
but it is also available in earlier versions of archicad

the 'trim to roof' and the 'seo' works a little different.
* with 'trim to roof' the cut gets a property of the element. you can move it and the position of the cut stays relativ to the element, even if the roof is deleted
* with 'seo' you can move operator separately. if it is moved outside the element or if it is deleted, the cut is away. you can get a similar behaviour by grouping both elements (of course it is much more powerful, but not so easy to use)

I'm usually concerned with the inherent overhead in doing various things in AC (holdover from AC 8.0). Some things are destined to play havoc with the model later or cause CPU brain farts.

SMO cutting is great to avoid the "undo roof trim" clicking when a new roof configuration is used.

Does anyone know the computational price we pay for this? It seems that a one-time operation that stays with the object (wall) is cheaper than a dynamic relationship that needs to be maintained.

There IS a price; call me old fashioned, but I still Trim to roof whenever I dont NEED the SEO - which, realistically, is not so often.
