Unwanted duplicate layers when using different pen colours

Not applicable
I am using ArchiCAD 14, and have been for a couple of years. I have a problem with a drawing I created last week (from our usual office template). We have standard layers for furniture, walls, roads, electrics, etc which usually contain different pen colours for different line-weights.

In my latest drawing, every time I change my pen colour ArchiCAD automatically creates a new duplicate layer called, for example, 'Existing_Walls_Pen_No_1' from an original layer called, 'Existing: Walls'. I now have about 20 of these unwanted layers.....

Can anyone tell me how to stop ArchiCAD creating these layers?
