Using Renovation Filter with Design Options

Good afternoon everyone,

I’m still getting familiar with Archicad and I have some questions. I’ve already created a few projects from scratch and that went fine. Now I’m working on some apartment renovation projects, and I’m unsure about the best way to combine the Renovation Filter with Design Options.

For example, I’m studying different possibilities to convert a bedroom into a suite. One option would be to use a nearby storage room to build a new bathroom. Another option would be to split the existing bathroom into two. In each case, the walls to be demolished and built are different.

How can I set up Design Options so that the Renovation Filter stays active and correctly shows what is being demolished and built for each alternative? This would be very useful to better evaluate and estimate the labor costs, since the demolitions and new walls change depending on the option.

I’m using version 28.

The Design Options only manage geometry, not state. Sadly.

So your only option is to duplicate the elements which should be assigned "to be demolished" for the respective DOs.

Thanks for clarifying! I see, it’s a pity, since exploring different remodeling alternatives of the existing layout is such a common part of the design process.

I’m not sure I fully understood the workaround, but I’ll give it a try.

Does anyone know of a video tutorial that shows this in practice?

The best way I have found to manage Design Options with existing building and Renovation Filters is to initially draw the entire existing building on the (Main Model) of the Design Options. I then open the Design options Manager and create Design Option folders for each specific area or room of the building I will be looking at options for. I then create an 'Existing' option for each area or room in each specific folder. Then I go back to the model and select the relevant existing elements for each area or room I have created a Design Option folder for  and 'Relink' the selected elements to the relevant 'Existing' Design Option for that space. I then duplicate the 'Existing' as many times as I need for each Design Option for that area or room. This way you always have the existing elements available for every option and to use as a basis to start a new design option where you can apply demolition status. You can then use all of the 'Existing' design options for your 'Existing' Plans.

I hope that makes sense. I have added a screenshot of the various Design Options I have for a current medical centre remodelling project.
