You don't say which version, but if you bought it in the early nineties I assume it must be 4.1 or 4.55 (I forget when AC first supported Windows). In any case it certainly has a parallel port protection key. It is possible that this is no longer supported in WinXP. It is also possible that the program itself is not WinXP compatible.

You should definitely upgrade to 8.1. The improvements are tremendous and I think it is unlikely that you will get such an old version to run properly (if at all) on a modern system.

Thank u Mathew - actually it is 4.55 . it was designed for Win3.11 and also WINNT3.5 - it says so in the manual ...it does have a parallel port protection key..i am using WIN2K..let alone the protection key, the s/w does start up in WIN2K but it closes down immediately too ....i guess the upgrade will cost me...and i am just gonna use it for a few weeks to design my new apartments interiors !

Just something you could try. Check the options in W2K after you right click the .exe file -properties, there might be a setting for "compatability mode" and ther you could try some options. Also you might have to edit the autoexec.bat file in order for W2K to be able to recognize the hardwarekey. If all else fails remember that you can buy a pay per use key which might be cheaper than upgrading.

Maybe it would not cost so much; check with the local representatives, which I have heard are very good. Check for the PPU or PayPerUse keys - in the times of 6.5 and 7 they were going here in Dubai like hotcakes ...
