WHEN IS GRID TOOL COMING???

Can anybody shed light on when the AC 11 grid tool will be available!!!

My team beta tested AC 11 and throughout the beta test the grid tool was available, albeit just as flawed as it was in 10. Then suddenly the tool was taken away from us when the final release came out. We were urged to used AC 11 on 'real' projects by graphisoft and so we did. We have real clients and we are working on a real $100m hotel and we need our grid tool back, asap.

*We have tried loading the RC1 grid tool but it doesn't get read by the final release.

I'm also wondering why the C4D interface add-on is taking longer than the MaxonForm app itself, when you would think it provides the same functionality as is required to get the ArchiCAD model into/out-of MaxonForm - which is just C4D Lite no?
It will provide the same functionality on a newer (C4D 10) version of the application + it will support the Intel Mac platform - that's why it takes more.

Of course the other choice is to delay MaxonForm until C4D10 compatible version is ready...

We will make a survey and decide based on the result.

Laura,

The grid marker selector was removed, because the Grid object went to such complexity, that we decided it is too difficult to customize it.

How was your marker different from the standard?

The problem here with the "its too difficult comment" is that I need flexibility. I want to make my CD's my way not GS way, this means having the option to choose/change. Besides the Grid tool this also happens with all the "NEW" Markers, they are what GS thinks they should be.

One of the reasons I chose AC was that flexibility without having to code it in, and it is being taken away little by little. For example AC11's markers cannot be placed like the following examples though AC10 even not being perfect were flexible enough.

We have been asked to pay for a yearly upgrade, I undestand it is difficult but GS was the one who decided on this path. I, as an user never demanded a quicker release scheduled and was happy with the ±18 month cycle. It gave enough time to learn the program, start, finish more than one project in that version and be productive with it. All the wishes are about functionality never about we need this now, except for the obvious goodies that are not upgraded with the new release.

On another note C4D 10 was released on december 2006, it has been 7 months going on 8 so by the time it is finally released C4D 11 might be on the horizon and Maxonform users will be behind again.

Sorry for the Rant

Karl, it seems the html file in the packaged version was not updated to the AC11 version.

Please use the readme link on the left side of the goodies download page, those are up to date.
Thanks, Gabor, and for the other status information. 😉

Tip for new to intermediate users: besides saving the page above from your browser, you can alternatively add the URL to your ArchiCAD 11 > WWWLinks folder (and weed out any unwanted URLs there). All of these web links will appear in the bottom of your Help menu. (Any PDF documents in the ArchiCAD 11 > Documentation folder appear at the top.)
Mac users go to Applications > Graphisoft > ArchiCAD 11... and XP users to Program Files > Graphisoft > ArchiCAD 11...

Cheers,

Ok now i'm a little confused .. does this mean that the AC11 compatible MaxonForm app is still based on C4D R9 whereas the add-on will allow for AC11 to interface with a standalone C4D R10? And both will be Mac Intel compatible as i understand MaxonForm AC10 is now?

This makes sense and i completely understand why the add-on will take longer - I had made the assumption both would be upgraded to C4D R10.

Thanks for the update!
cheers,

Well... we did have the abililty to create a custom grid element in AC10, and so I did with certain parameters "set" and Locked or Hidden so that user's can't mess with them -- I also added a background fill to the bubble. We have 2 standard bubbles: a Circle for new construction, and a Hexagon for existing -- I limited the bubble options to these two (again, it gives user's fewer things to mess with). So our custom grid element was basically a management solution.

Now... if I migrate an AC10 project to AC11, I have no way of controlling which marker is being used -- as long as our custom marker is loaded with the libraries, the Grid Element Tool seems to default to this object; however, if I don't load the custom object, my grids are gone! So the issue here is migration without the need for re-creation.

You can still control text type/style/size/pen within the Grid Element dialog.

But Grid Element dialog will not effect the placement of the grid itself. Only after placement of grid Grid Element dialog has to be used to edit them all. Is this the only way editing after the fact?
Thanks,
