Wall Intersections in AC9

Anonymous
Not applicable
I can't get different thickness walls to intersect in AC9. 4" interior walls intersect cleanly, but 4" walls won't clean up with 6" interior walls. i've tried composite and simple walls, made sure they're on the same layer, same settings, clean wall & beam intersections is on, etc. I never had this problem with 8.1, so maybe I have a wrong setting somewhere in 9?

Hi Lee

Are they on layers with different intersection priority numbers? Trying putting them on the same layer and see what happens?

If not - do they have the same core fills? Check your composite settings. Also - are the reference lines of the walls touching? Are they the same heights?

Could be a number of things!

Hi, Link.
Good to hear from you again, and thank you for the reply. I have attached an example of my problem. If it is the core settings that are causing the problem, why didn't I experience this in AC8? I am using the same template I used before, just opened it with AC9.

Hi Don

What you show in your PDF is the correct way ArchiCAD handles composites. Only composite cores (& skins) with the same fill will heal together. Or more accurately, composite fills with the samd ID will heal, and the cores take preference. The thickness is irrelavant. If you want all these walls to heal, you will need to apply the same fill to the composites. Instead of having '2x6' and '2x4' fills, you could create a fill called 'Wood Studs' and apply this as a fill to all the composites. In fact, in this case, you wouldn't absolutely need to use composites, if you didn't want to, although I would still recommend it.

I hope that helps you. Keep us posted.

Cheers,

I have just begun experimenting with composites, and am running into the same problem of walls not cleaning up, and using the same fill for the core does not seem to be a good solution either. I use different fills to to represent different wall types, ie. empty fill for existing, 25% for 2x4, 50% for 2x6....... etc.... if it was only the cores which did not clean up, and matching skins did clean up, there would be no problem, but as it works now the finish skins separate the joint of differing line types, is there any tricks to get the finish skins to clean up properly.
