Wall Niche

Not applicable
I want to make an in wall shelf, like the picture.

I've read some threads about this that it's called a Wall Niche.

This thread was like 10 years ago.

I want the surface of the wall to follow the shelf, so it's like a horizontal wall;) Is this still the preferred way to do this?

Or just model as it will be built. Probably some double / false walls, either with empty openings or stacking walls. Model the shelves with slabs.

Thick wall with one of the niche openings will work for simple 3D as well.

Even just stacking thick slabs will work for simple 3D.

All depending on the level of detail you need.

This is what I want to achieve. Of course, I want the composite to follow the cut in the wall.

A niche is a recess in the wall that is not greater in depth than the thickness of the wall.
The niche object will work perfectly for that - search for it in the window tool.

It looks to me that you want to box out a section.
If that is the case then model it as it is built with extra walls and slabs and place an empty opening in the front wall.
