Wall ends/veneer at empty opening/ etc

Attched you should see a complex profile wall I made with an arched opening in it.

My issue is that I would like to show the stone veneer wrapping where you would walk through the doorway.

I have decided for now I could just make a wall as think as the stone wall but only make it of only stone and wider than the door- then stop the composite, draw the stone wall, insert door, start composite again.


I am sure how veer that this is not the best way to do this- so any advice, as allways, is awesome.

The best way would be to make a custom door. The simplest way is to use slabs for the stones. This way you can include coursing and even rustication. You will also need to include a special slab with the ID of WALLHOLE. This should be shrink wrapped around the outside of the arch.

with using slabs though I am going to see all four outlines of the slab in plan- and it still own't look like a clean wrap right?

In the INT library, the Arched openings all have cavity closer and plaster turning settings. If you can, try setting the cavity closer to 'Traditional' with the insulation strip 'Off'. This may get you closer to what you require.

If the US library is different, unfortunately I can't even post the part as it calls macros within macros etc.

If thats the case, you could try splitting the wall either side of the opening, using the arched opening in the center wall, and then use the 'wall end' tool to wrap the ends of the two abutting walls. Nasty, but it might work without having to mess with custom openings.

Very nice, something I did not know about.

In my library it gives me options:

Turn in, Turn out, and Continuous.

This does almost solve problems, I think that is is still mising the "truning" of one hatch- but, we're getting closer, thank you.

As for the custom doors, I would have to have a custom door for each type of wall I was putting them in right?

You can dress up the symbol to get exactly the look you want

It looks like it's a bit different to mine. For clarity exactly which opening are you using? Maybe someone with the US library could experiment quickly.

As far as I know yes, unless you are cunning and fiddle with the GDL, one for every thickness of wall and opening width.

Hi again .
I see that all doors and windows have this cavity closure option, how ever, none of the continuous ones work- and turn in .out is not what I need, i dont even know what they are trying to do actually.

The opening I am using is "D Arch Opening11".
The continuous option for this might be cloe enough.

But- I think not really.

And Mathew- how do you mean dress up the symbol? Which symbol?

There is a 2D (plan) symbol window in the library part editor. It is only minimally parametric - just a drawing that can stretch to match the size of the part. But for a one off it does the trick nicely, and for some simple parts or minimal size adjustments it can still work just fine.
