What is Graphisoft Option Manager?

I read the article at http://aec.cadalyst.com/aec/Column%3A+ArchiCad/ArchiCAD-Insights-Design-Options/ArticleStandard/Arti... where the Graphisoft Option Manager is discussed. I never heard about it and it seems to be a (quite expensive) plugin.

Anybody used it? Does it still exist? Was it a US-only thingy?

In the long run, if Graphisoft continues to rely an third-party plugins, they better make sure that the best ones are kept up to date. There are already too much non-supported add-ons that I avoid to rely on any of them, since each year, a new ArchiCAD version will make them obsolete for some time and sometimes for good...

I was on the beta test team for it back in early 2005 and was mostly unimpressed. It was a GSUS attempt to offer a solution to (cookie cutter?) companies who wanted to produce multiple options for the same model. It was flawed from the get-go. One of the many flaws was that an OM file couldn't be teamworked.

And I quickly came to the conclusion that multiple copies of teamworked drafts could do a far better job than OM ever could, and it was sitting there right under our eyes the whole time. Still is! Ha!

I'm not even sure if it's still on the market. I'd be surprised if it didn't die a long and slow death. Even the Log Home Solution was more successful, not to mention superior, and it gets little, to no, attention.

Cheers,

interesting - I had been very interested in the options manager as I often need to produce multiple options based on a single base plan. Last I heard it was available for v 10 but not for 11.

I don't know what "multiple copies of teamwork drafts" are but I'm going to check it out!

That didn't work in any of the combinations of OS and browsers I tried: Ubuntu + Firefox, OSX + Safari, OSX + firefox, XP + MSIE, XP + Firefox...

If even the demo movie is so reliant on old technology that it doesn't play anymore, I'm starting to lose interest...

Worked for me too. The download version is a self-running Director ffile. However, the bored woman's voice may make anyone lose interest...
