Zooming in the 3d window

The 3d window always seems to be zooming extents on me. This especially happens when I use my scroll button to zoom in, but also when windowing or panning.

Anyone know a reason for this?

Options/Preferences/Imaging&Calculation/Keep zoomed detail on rebuild is on or off?

Advice: upgrade to 8.1 is free. Third patch of R2 was posted yesterday. Upgrade.
