somehow, for some reason, dark and unknown...I am getting these fat line returns arond the windows. I want the lineweight to be the same as it wraps the wall...must be a radio button somewhere, a slider or dial or toggle or...any hints? thank you!

In the composite settings dialogue box there is a place where you can chose your "skin end lines".

You can pick which pen you want for these ends, or check the 'hide' box..

the skin end applies also to edges cut by doors, windows etc.

thanks for your response, and I looked into the situation on my composite--I turned off all of the end lines, to no changes. So...another ccause? Here is another -and slightly more disturbing (or illuminating?) image...it appears that this thick line occasionally wraps the window, following the trim. Maybe a window setting, but I can't for the life of me figure it out.

It also looks like you have your composite skins set to turn in.

Check "cavity closure" settings in your window dialogue box.

I'm not sure I looked at the right place...for the "cavity closure" situation...the attached jpeg shows a little box in the lower right, labelled "contours", which I fiddled with. I also messed with about 4 other variables in the window selection settings box...no single variable seemed to change anything, except when I unchecked the "use fills" dialog box in the 2D settings box, that seemed to do it. But oddly enough, other windows, which were not misbehaving, had the "use fills" box checked. The inconsistency of performance is driving me up the wall. It almost seems like a "display order" function, but it is my understanding that the windows and the wall they are embedded in are always represented at the same "level". thank you...!

Which window library are you using?

Its the SE9. Does that change things? Maybe more variables available to me to be disturbed by?

It is in the same place in the SE library as the old one.
Look under the Parameters tab.
See attached.
If you set it to 'None' that should take care of it. If you want the closure wrapping then go back to the composite dialogue box and choose a pen with an appropriate lineweight
