copy/paste in 3D window ?

I'm asking out of curiosity.

I have two open pln projects.

What is the technical problem that ArchiCAD doesn't allow you to routinely copy selected elements (Ctrl+C) from the 3D window of one project and paste them (Ctrl+V) into the 3D window of another project? After all, it could automatically paste them into the same 3D place, and the user could then move them, etc.

OK, I know you can copy from a 2D plan and paste into a 2D plan, etc.

Is it about the target story ? ArchiCAD can ask about that, etc.

But ArchiCAD also doesn't allow you to copy and paste elements into the 3D window using the clipboard, even in the same project. OK, you can drag and drop by holding the plus key, etc.

Hi all,

In addition to the a/m solution I can tell you that,

as Archicad is not an ordinary 3D modeling software as (AutoCAD, Sketchup or even Revit) and as it's a real BIM solution it won't handle elements as other applications do it, rather it handles the elements' information also to deliver them as expected.

So, try to save those selected elements as a module file, then placing them in the appropriate floor plan in the other file & break hotlink to embed the elements into this file.

See the attached screenshots showing the profiles before I transfer this complex profile column & after I placed as a module, I hope that helps.

There is nothing about BIM to prohibit copy/paste.  The clipboard (whether Windows or Mac) is a sophisticated data container ... and can contain almost anything with all of its meta data.  Hence there is, in principal, no need for modules/etc as the clipboard can contain all content necessary to implement the copy/paste.  To the extent that there may be some kind of data that cannot be held (I woud be surprised) - Graphisoft themselves merely needs to implement it as a hidden, temporary module file - totally transparent and behind the scenes to the user.
