making a void in the mesh

i am very new to the program, i have the guide book, but it doesnt explain very much about the mesh tool. I was wondering how to build terrain around a prexisting building. I already have my buildings layed out and i need to build the land up around them. All i can do is put a flat ground down and it goes inside the buildings.

hi i hope i can help
first of all i didnt notice which archicad are u using
i hope its v.9
now: the mesh tool has a pet pallete.it pops up when you click on a grip of the mesh you want to modify
this pallete has 2 rows:
the second row is drag/rotate/mirror/elevate/multiply
and the first one is the most useful.
there are tools like add to polygon and substract from polygon. the two last buttons that have the + and the -
with the minus you can draw an area on your existing mesh to remove it (you create a hole like that under your building)
then you create a brand new mesh under your building that has its top exactly there where your building starts.
im sorry if my english are hard to understand

i hope i helped you

Bryan,

To get a proper landform you also need to add contours (you mention having only flat terrain). The easiest way is to trace the contours (from a scan, DWG or by eye) with the spline tool. You can then magic wand (space bar click) them (with the mesh & mesh tool selected) to apply them to the mesh. You then need to elevate the contours to their correct height. The pet palette gives you this option in plan when you click on one of the mesh contours. be sure to check "Apply to all" to elevate the entire contour. I hope this is clear. It is easier than it nay sound.

Another way to modify the mesh is to use the Solid Elements Operation found in the Edit Menu; for instance to create level pads or define a void.
AC27 v. 4060 w/ MEP, Cadimage, Twinmotion 2023.2.2 using AC from AC6.0, 2021 MacPro M1 chip, Adobe CC. Used AC on both platforms.

If you want a hole in the mesh where the buildings are:

- Right click on the mesh, Select and activate tool
- trace the outline of the building
- in the popup that appears when you close the contour, choose Make hole
- done

Note: this works on all the polygonal elements (fills, slabs, meshes, roofs) as does the pet pallette

If you want to dig out the part that the building occupies:

- Start Solid Element Operations (Edit puldown menu)
- Select the Mesh, as Target
- Select the floor slab of the house as the Operator
- Choose Subtraction with upwards extrusion, click Execute
- done

Clear as mud?
