roof rafters

Does anyone know how to get dimensions of the roof rafters that the roof tool creates. I know that I could create a section for each one and then measure them, but is there a faster way, such as command T and find out the parameters?

if by dimensions you mean the height of the parts of the roof you can set the gravity from the coordinate box set to roof and then use the level tool

Actually, I'm looking for all the dimensions of the rafters. lengths, angles, etc... Is this possible or do I have to do the math myself. It would make sense that if the object is a model, we should theoretially be able to know all the dimensiosn needed.

I am at the wrong computer to attach the file, actually I remember not being able to attach the file a while back... but tomorrow I will post a link to a file you can use to extract what you need.. sorta. You need to create a quantity takeoff and pull the info off a roof framing plan made with that utility. The "straight" calculations will give unusable results (2x8x7'-8".. as an example), but the file I have will round all lengths up to the appropriate 2' increments (2x8x8).

If you want to, go to my web site and download the sample material list. It is displayed on each plan page as "sample". You can see what AC can do and if that is what you are after. With the right setup (which can be very painful to do) it is very easy to get a quantitative take off of all the roof framing materials.

If you are looking for an actual rafter cut pattern, then you would need to section each typical rafter and dimension it, but that's a framer's job:)

Tomorrow I will post a link and a screen shot showing the take off setup.

Hey Rick, What your talking about sounds really cool. I definitely have a use for that. I suppose that I could do automatic take-offs for the studs as well? eh?
I'm using/testing Archicad for use in developing steel framing for residential and small commercial applications. The reason I asked about specific dimensions is that sometimes I may need to create a steel joists with the proper lengths and cuts.
Nevertheless I am extremely interested in the mentioned file. I wait with bated breath
Thanks

THis gets a bit tricky (at least for me). The way AC has the calculate function set up you need to make your "own" "Property Data" file you can keep and migrate from version to version. If you don't you will loose what you created. ALl that stuff is stored in the Property Data file within you AC library.

Down this file and place it in you library as above.. and see the screen shot for reference.

Here is more info in setting the calc up. If you haven't found this file referenced elsewhere on the forum, it might be useful also.

I will attach screen shots of the "List Scheme" set up. You might need to go into the Work Environment area to turn on the menu options. They are off by default.
