subfloor thickness value

Does anyone know what the subfloor thickness value (on parameters panel of doors and windows) is for?
I looked it up in the manual (AC 8 ) it says it allows you to adjust the nominal sill height to the desired level of the slab connected to the host wall.
Whatever value I type in, it seems nothing changes in the model, the window settings or calculation lists.

Hello Dan,
Scripting doors and windows in the way you describe would be simple.
Why don't you script a window and a door this way and
see what the implications might be.

This value basically defines the distance between the bottom of the Wall and the finished floor level.
The way we model our houses is we model Walls from top of slab to the bottom of the slab on the next level. This is good because you can provide structural data and models to our structural consultants this way.
Let us say that above the slab, there is 10 cm to the finished floor level. You want your Doors to align with the finished floor level.
So for a Window with 90 cm parapet, you make it 100 cm high from the bottom of the Wall, enter 10 cm for Subfloor Thickness.
The window will correctly display 90 cm for it parapet. (The parapet is always calculated by dividing subfloor thickness from the sill height from the bottom of the wall).

Sorry to drag this up again, but I'm still trying to convince myself that this really isn't an obscure setting. Laszlo, would you mind telling us what settings you're using, with the image below as a reference?

It's a task to get my head around the fact that it doesn't move in 3D if the subfloor thickness is set. So is it purely and exclusively for the purpose of getting the sill value in the door marker to show up with the correct information? And do builders over there, usually assume the sill is off the finished floor, or do you add further notation to it?

Any additional info to clear this up would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hunter.

Hello Hunter,
Yes, what you did in the settings Dialog is correct: we set the two fields you marked to the same value.
Yes, in Hungary, constructors know that the Sill is always measured from the finished floor level, so if they see 90 cm on the plan, then they look at the drawings, read off the floor thickness (let us say 12 cm) and so they know the sill must be 102 cm from the top of the slab structure.

Another thing I actually do in my drawings is I set the lower oversize value of the Door to the value of the sill height so I don't have that ugly wall piece below the Door in sections (that 50 mm piece in you attached image), and I can make the section details nice.
