I have a problem to make wine barrel. I use basic shape to make wine barrel, but it looks like trash can. I think that's because wine barrel are more curve on the side. Is there any way I can make the can curve as wine barrel? the attachment is the image that I have right now, so you can tell it just look like trash can.

Don't group anything. It'll require you more clicks you really need.
After all I reproduced your 'mistake' only grouping them.

that's it.

have fun
You are right Alexandre as far as the need for grouping; only if a very simple shape is desired, you will notice however, that to produce a 'fine' barrell such as Peter did -with a thickened lip and top and bottom you want to group the lines needed to provide that definition - thickness.
Otherways no need for grouping is reqiured.

On another note; Ashley, when you extrude the shape needed, pay special attention to the 'thick' marks in the Profiler window settings, selecting them makes a difference as to the point location of the extrusion (?) If I am making sense... A little experimentation is needed.

for Jacek:
yes, for Peter's 'complex' shapes you must group the lines. And for this example the circle isn't needed.

for all:
Sorry for not making myself clear, I meant not to group the shape line AND the path. That action creates unnecessary steps. that's it

To those who my be interested,
I had some doubts after Ashley said she still couldn't get Profiler to work.
Yesterday when I used Profiler as described in my jpg only one click
was necessary to make the library part. But today I tried it again
and the only way I could get consistent behavior from Profiler
when trying to make a revolved object involved clicking once
on the mid point of the arc, clicking again and drawing with Horizontal
constraint a rubber band line across to the center line of the object,
the start point of a ghost circle appears and a mouse movement
starts to draw a clock-wise or counter clock-wise circle, depending
on which way the mouse is moved.
This creates a strange looking object in the 3D window and you
have to go to the objects settings dialog and click the change direction
button to get a wine barrel shape.
None of this was necessary the first time I tried it.

Since there is no documentation in AC 8 for profiler I thought
some might be interested in the documentation for Profiler in
AC 6.5 for what it's worth. See attachment

Dear genius:

I feel so stupid right now. I still have problem of makeing a good one

I do follow the step--> draw half outline of wine barrel-->profiler-->choose the top right bottom-->set up the hight 2'-11"-->ok--> draw the circle from the lower center point

But it always have a hole in the center, Do I miss any step? Is there anything that I should set up in the setting window? Thank you for all of your help

Your point of rotation is outside the bottom/top of the barrel. You must either put a cork in it or start from the end of your line

here is the problem. No metter I group or not group. start from bottom/top end line or out side of the line. It all show the hole in the center. even I type R number, it still give me a hole in the center.

I haven't try to put cork in it. When you said put the cork in it, do you mean material? or that's another way of making wine barrel?

ashley,

it's kind of trick. I took quite some time to deal with it.

see an example:

* Set the anchor point to left.
* Start with the point in the center of the new barrel.
* Your 2nd point will be a point that projects the external limit of the barrel. have a look at the image I sent, which I think will be easier to understand.

As I can see by the examples you sent, you may have to set an object parameter called 'Change direction'.

hope it helps

PS. don't get so drunk after all those barrels...
