ArchiCAD 12 (Mac OS 10.5.5) Sounds

Just getting used to AC12 after using AC10 for awhile.

The "eyedropper" used to make a satisfying sound to let me know that I had picked up (or injected) the attributes of a library part, wall, etc. Now it just makes the clunking sound... the one that usually means "hey dummy, you're not doing that right!". Tool still works and all, but the old sound would let you know for sure.

How do I get it back? Is this just a bug? I use this thing all day long.

Thanks

I can confirm that Mac G4 and Mac Intel has sounds for 10 and 11, but just thunk/klunk for 12. No problem with Windows 12. So, I assume there was some oversight by GS. Will ask.

Mark, It is interesting that you are having this problem on a G5... or at least I assume you are using a G5 based on your signature. I had started to think that this problem was limited to macbooks.

Let me reiterate that I still get all the right chirps and dings if I use AC10.... the problem is not in AC12, so I don't think it is totally a mac OS problem. I'm a version skipper so I can't speak to what happens in AC11.

Not sure what you mean about programming for PPC vs. Mactel, etc.

jb,

Yes, I'm on a G5. The sounds in ArchiCAD were always the same from version 4.55 up thru version 11.

Are you saying that you have the 'chiff' or 'steamboat whistle' as well as the 'eye-dropper' sounds in your version of AC12 (With the ArchiCAD sounds enabled?)?? 'Cause I'm not interested in returning to 11 or 10.

As for programming or software differences between the PPC & Mactel: Ever notice when you get a Mac upgrade there are 2 types of files? There is one for a PPC Mac and one for a Mactel(Universal Binary I believe). The programming schemes and protocols are different as well as the OS due to the nature of the different processors.

This is a fundamental reason why the older formats will receive less and less development or support. At some point I expect GS will no longer develop for the Mac PPC anymore than Apple will continue to issue OS upgrades. It's not a new concept, it's part of the maturing realm of computing in general, CAD in particular and it's been discussed on many other threads.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Sorry for the confusion Mark, I just edited my earlier post to point out that the problem occurs for me only in AC12. I.e. in AC12 I get no chiffs, no chimes, no whistles. Just the thunk/clunk system sound.

Thanks Karl for passing this along to GS.

You're welcome, JB - will pass along anything I hear, unless they post here themselves.

For both Apple (10.5 Leopard) and Graphisoft (AC 12) the current releases are the final ones for the PPC platform according to most of what I've seen. "Snow Leopard" and the successor to AC 12 (whatever its name may be) will be Intel-only AFAIK.

Hmmm....some Googling shows rumors that Snow Leopard might include PPC support....

(The Intel Mac version is not universal, but Intel. GS distributes separate PPC and Intel versions rather than a Universal Binary for a variety of development reasons that don't really matter to us end-users. The result in performance is the same - the consumption of disk space is half.)

Cheers,

Graphisoft has let me know that indeed the sounds did get messed up in AC 12 (Mac).

While the sounds will be back to normal in the next version, if enough Mac users indicate that they want the sounds fixed in 12, they may consider doing that in a hotfix. I've started a poll here:

With ArchiCAD 12 I loose the old feedback alert sounds. The option is on and what I get is the alert sounds from the operating system. Any help?

It's hard to get use to work without the archiCAD feedback sounds after more them 20 years...

check that they are turned on,

Under Menu Options
-> Work Environment
-> More Options
Archicad Sounds
____
This was also previously discussed so a search for AC sounds might help.

Yes, the option is on. If I turn it off, no feedback sound. With the option on, what I get is the mac os alert sound, not the archicad alert sounds.

We have 3 machines (iMac 24 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) at office, all running since yesterday AC 12 and the problem is consistent in all of them. So I guess that this should be a bug.
