Are your backup files disappearing

We have experienced a problem of our backup files disappearing. Actually the folders are present but all contents are gone.

Our office is working on two indentical MacBook Pros (see specs below).
We are using a Lacie harddrive as a sudo server. Our two designers are working on their respective PLC files and send/receive to the PLN file on the Lacie drive which we back up onto a second harddrive and to a offsite server for safe keeping.

We have noticed error messages in our backup process and incredibly only the AC files become emptied of all data! Thanks for the PLC files that remain on the individual designers desk top that have saved us from losing all work.

We realize this may be a back up issue and not a AC problem. We would like to know if anyone has experienced this pheomamon in their course of work?

Perhaps this was a typo, but Send & Receive is to the PLP not PLN.

You say that the ArchiCAD files are emptied of data. Do you mean that the file is there but contains no data or just that the folder is empty?

Is this happening on the local server or just the backup drive and remote server?

Are people signed into the PLP when the backup occurs? This might prevent it being backed up.

What about the backup folder for the PLP? ArchiCAD by default stores the last five versions of the PLP. Are these also missing?

It sounds like this may be related to your earlier permissions problem.

Yes the the reference to PLN as the send/receive designation is a typo.

All AC files which includes .adm,.pln,.plp and backup folders exist but their once 3.5mb size is reduced to zero.

We currently believe the problem starts on the local drive and is transmitted as empty files to the remote server.

Are any people logged into the PLP? I have to say yes. We change our habit and log out and see what happens.

Yes all five backup folders are empty too!

The fact that the files on your server (the active files) are getting zeroed is strange and seems to eliminate the backup software as the culprit. This is very strange stuff. Such as I have never seen the like.

Since you were having the permissions problems before I wonder if this is related. You could also try serving a project from one of your MacBook Pros. If that works then it might be something funny with the Lacie NAS drive.
