Automatic Zone Recognition Issues

working on an iMac 27 I can't get my single button Wired mouse to create an Automatic Zone even though the pallete directs me to click on an area enclosed by surrounding walls. The mouse works perfectly fine otherwise.

AC17 or AC16 or below? Select all walls so that the reference lines and end points are clearly visible on your screen. For the room(s) in question, do the reference lines intersect? Zoom in very close to each corner of the room to verify. I have seen cases where there is a hairline gap between reference lines so the Zone tool cannot find an enclosed space.

The plan I was using to understand how to create the energy analysis has been so corrupted that no matter what I do it will not work because I tried to create Zones manually and then deleted them and lost the opportunity to create the Zones automatically. On a different plan I was able to create the automatic Zones and had to bring them to the front in order to see what was done. I have the Floor (slab) Ceiling (slab) Roof and Area layer on that was hiding the Zone marks. Unfortunately the Manual does not address these issues very well.

I finally discovered the problem I had while trying to automatically create a Zone. The subject Zone was rather complicated and I spent a lot of time trying to correct the warning sign the the zone did not have correct walls to calculate.
I then realized that the culprit might be the short walls used at the Island in the Kitchen area might be the cause of the confusion. Once I put those walls on a different Layer and hid them from view the Automatic Zone worked perfectly. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem but just in case I wanted to share my solution.

Next time you could simply set the Walls' Relation to Zones field to "No Effect on Zones". Then they can stay where they are and they will not participate in the Zone's boundary recognition process.
