Demolitions and Proposals

I'm new to Archicad and would like to create a model of an existing building showing existing elements to be demolished and newly created elements. Previously I've worked solely in 2D and simply hid elements to be demolished when publishing my proposal drawing . However in Archicad if the existing elements are drawn and placed on a hidden layer they still affect newly created elements passing across them. Is there a way to overcome this?

You will need to spend some time adjusting the priority number in the layer dialogue box. Note that each layer can have a different priority number in each layer set. Have a different priority number means that the walls in those layers will not interact with each other.
